I recently read Of Mice and Men for the first time, and considering I don't read books very often i'd have to put it in my top 5, even though its very entry-level.
then i watched the 1992 film adaptation and was kinda disappointed, mainly because i feel that John Malkovich was severely miscast as Lennie, and that his performance in the movie was very hit-or-miss. also Curley's wife wasn't as shallow or slutty as described in the book, most likely due to muh misogyny. The last major gripe i had with the adaptation was that they completely removed the part where Curley's wife lays into the black ranch-hand, as i felt it was a huge moment of development for both characters.

>tfw you finally got around to reading the book thief a few months ago >tfw you cry even though it was only ok i hate my taste in literature i need to get around to some orwell the last (and probably only) time a book majorly struck me in the feels was when I read Flowers for Algernon, which is a phenomenal book, possibly even my favorite. Of Mice and Men didn't affect me as much as it should have because I knew how it was going to end, but it's still really great.

Oh yes, that was a required read when I was like 12, but I don't remember much. The movie is one of my all-time favorites, maybe I should give it a reread.

It really is. When your main child actor is not only good, but delivers one of the greatest performance of all time, you know you've at least got an acting powerhouse. Gregory Peck's final statement gives me chills.
